A primate-focused circuit through western Uganda — chimpanzee trekking in Kibale Forest, a Kazinga Channel boat cruise in Queen Elizabeth National Park, and mountain gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.
After your morning pickup, depart for Kibale Forest National Park in western Uganda, renowned as the primate capital of the world. Arrive at your lodge near Kibale Forest and settle in ahead of tomorrow's chimpanzee trek.
Overnight: Kibale Forest Lodge or similarAfter breakfast, head into Kibale Forest National Park for a chimpanzee trekking experience — accompanied by experienced guides, explore the forest in search of wild chimpanzees and observe their behaviour in the wild (the trek typically takes 2–4 hours, including an hour with the chimps). Continue to the Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary for a guided swamp walk rich in birdlife and primates, followed by a cultural visit to a local community to learn about Batooro or Bakiga traditions, dance and herbal medicine.
Overnight: Kibale Forest Lodge or similarDepart after breakfast for Queen Elizabeth National Park, travelling through the scenic Kasenda crater field. Enjoy wildlife viewing en route to your lodge — elephant, buffalo, Uganda kob, warthog, bushbuck and more — before an afternoon boat cruise along the Kazinga Channel (approximately two hours), with excellent chances of hippo, crocodile, shoreline elephant and a wide variety of birdlife.
Overnight: Engiri Game Lodge or similarAn early morning game drive (from around 6:30am) across Queen Elizabeth's savannah in search of elephant, antelope, lion, leopard, jackal and hyena, depending on sightings. Afterwards, depart for Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, home to nearly half the world's remaining mountain gorillas, through the beautiful forested highlands of southwestern Uganda. Check in at your lodge near Bwindi and relax ahead of tomorrow's gorilla trek.
Overnight: Rushaga Gorilla Lodge or similarAfter an early breakfast, head to the designated briefing point in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park before entering the forest for a mountain gorilla trek (approximately 2–8 hours depending on the family's location and terrain, plus an hour observing them once found) — a remarkable opportunity to learn about gorilla behaviour, family life and the conservation efforts protecting them. In the afternoon, you may opt for a Batwa community tour at an additional cost, learning about traditional food, dance, herbal medicine and the cultural heritage of the Batwa people.
Overnight: Rushaga Gorilla Lodge or similarCheck out after breakfast and begin the return journey towards Kampala or Entebbe through the scenic Kigezi Highlands and Ankole cattle country. Stop at the Uganda Equator in Kayabwe for photographs and a fun geographical experiment, with a hot lunch along the way, before being dropped off in Kampala or at Entebbe International Airport, marking the end of your Uganda wildlife and primate safari.
